Sustainable School Fundraising

For most children in the United States, late August and early September mark the beginning of a new school year, but for many children in coffee growing nations, parents can’t afford education for their children.  Children must work alongside their parents for basic survival.

ReThink Coffee drinkers help provide education for children through their responsible purchase of our fairly traded coffee.  Fairly traded coffee purchases help farmers own their land and their future.  Freed from slavery, those farmers can afford to send their children to school.

At the same time, coffee drinkers also have the opportunity to support education here in the States simply by ordering their coffee through ReThink Coffee and choosing a school as their affiliate organization.

ReThink Coffee provides schools with a sustainable solution to fundraising.  Encourage your school’s supporters to order their coffee through ReThink Coffee and we take care of the rest.  They’ll get three pounds of the world’s finest freshly roasted coffee – fairly traded, shade grown and organic, delivered to their door on the schedule they choose with free shipping. We take care of all orders and fulfillment.

Each month your organization will receive a check for 8% of each supporter’s purchase. That works out to about $2.63 per order. So if 100 people order, that’s $263.20.  That support is sustainable in that you will receive a check for each month’s orders.  In a calendar year that’s $3,158.40.

If your school hasn’t signed on yet,  it’s very easy to get started. Simply go to our website(www.rethinkcoffee.com) and add your school’s fundraising organization (PTAs and PTOs) to our list of affiliates by clicking the ‘Become an Affiliate’ button and filling out your contact information.  There’s no cost to your organization.

We’ll contact you that same day to request your logo and check in on how we can support you.  Your account will be active and ready to accept orders in 3-4 days. When you are ready to spread the word, you can download posters from our website or request a customized half page sheet to send home to students.

Speaking of education, our partners Camano Island Coffee Roasters (www.camanoislandcoffeeroasters.com) and Agros International (www.agros.org) do so much good in the world.  Look on their sites to learn more about the changes ReThink Coffee drinkers are supporting just by drinking great coffee.

Thanks for joining us in using responsible purchasing as a vehicle for positive change. Forward this link on to any school you’d like to support.  We really believe that if people love their coffee and buy responsibly we can change the world.

love your coffee ● buy responsibly ● change the world

We started ReThink Coffee as a way for people to love their coffee, buy responsibly and change the world all at the same time. Coffee is the world’s second largest commodity (second only to oil) so your coffee purchasing habits make a tremendous impact on lives.

When you make a commitment to responsible coffee purchasing, and drinking only the world’s best coffee you order through ReThink Coffee.

Camano Island Coffee Roasters supplies your order with only the top 1% of the world’s coffee, organic, shade grown and fairly traded coffee.  Every bean is purchased at a fair price.  The coffee is freshly roasted and delivered to your door (free shipping always) for only $32.90 for three full pound bags. In addition to paying a fair wage to the farmers, CICR also donates 20% of each purchase to Agros International.

Agros International works to end the cycle of rural poverty for landless farmers by helping them purchase land and become self-sustaining.  After land is purchased, Agros walks along the farmers as they build villages, hospitals, schools and other infrastructure.

In addition, when you go through the ReThink Coffee website to order your coffee, you get to choose a non-profit organization to support with another 20% of each purchase.  Since  ReThink Coffee club orders are set up on a scheduled delivery cycle, you non-profit receives sustainable support each month.  ReThink Coffee orders are delivered on the schedule you choose with free shipping.

It’s so simple to change the world.  When the time comes for you to make your next coffee purchase, order through ReThink Coffee – drink the world’s best coffee, help provide land and hope to the farmers who grow your coffee and support the non-profit you believe in.

Give us a try. You can cancel anytime, but we’ve never had a customer walk away from this fabulous coffee that is changing the world.

Bike Works

Lately I’ve been seeing more and more people out riding their bicycles with a mug of coffee in hand. Bikes and coffee – the perfect pair.  Now you can use your ReThink Coffee orders with to support our non-profit affiliate, Bike Works.

The Bike Works mission is to create sustainable communities by educating youth and promoting bicycling. They work primarily with underserved neighborhoods in south-east Seattle. Some elements of Bike Works’ sustainable model include mentoring programs, skill and strength building, community service, and providing accessible and affordable transportation.

Bike Works offers classes, like the Earn-a-Bike program where youth learn to repair bikes that will be donated to the community.  After 18 hours of service, students can then pick out and fix up their own bike.  The Earn-a-Bike program is just one of many ways Bike Works invites youth in to a place that encourages and supports them, that teaches skills and introduces the joy of bicycling.

To find out more about this great non-profit organization, check out the Bike Works website: www.bikeworks.org.  If you live anywhere in the Seattle area be sure to use Bike Works as your bicycle repair and donation destination.  As a ReThink Coffee subscriber, you can support Bike Works from anywhere in the U.S. when you choose them as your affiliate.

Enjoy the ride!

Recent Price Increase

We want to do the best job we can to keep affiliates and our faithful coffee drinkers informed and updated on all the good that happens with each coffee purchase.

If you drink ReThink Coffee you’ve recently received a letter from our coffee supplier, Camano Island Coffee Roasters, that there has been a slight increase in the price of each order.  Due to rising postal prices, they have to make this slight increase to continue to provide you with your fairly traded, shade grown, and organic coffee while continuing to pay a fair price to the farmer.

We realize that you have many choices of where to purchase coffee, and yet you have made the decision to purchase coffee that changes the world!  I think you’ll find the small price increase pretty minimal when you look at the huge impact your coffee choices make in the world.  Check out the Agros blog (www, agros, org) and updates from your chosen affiliate for inspiration!

Thank you for your understanding.

Helping Children, Plain and Simple – Evangeline International

Congratulations to our affiliate, Evangeline International and Sweet Water Wells on a very successful Water Walk event at the Bellingham Ski to Sea race this weekend!

Over 900 people from the race day crowds participated – walking along carrying a jerry can with 44-pounds of unsafe water -the daily 3.75-mile chore of many women and children in Africa.

jerry cans

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kills more people every year than all forms of violence – even war. Children are the most susceptible to disease from drinking unsafe water.

Sweet Water Wells is all about bringing clean water to every community that doesn’t have it. Just one well can provide a community of 250 people with clean water, renewing their chance at health, education, and a better life.

Twenty dollars can give one person clean drinking water for 20 years.

As a coffee prosumer, you can make your coffee purchases count toward clean drinking water and health for entire communities. Nine deliveries of ReThink Coffee will return enough to Sweet Water Wells to provide one person with clean water for 20 years.  In a year and a half, you can provide 40 years of clean water and on and on. Just by drinking great coffee!

ReThink Coffee’s Mammas

Mother’s Day is upon us, so here’s to some ReThink Coffee Mammas!

"I don't drink, I chug!" - Shelby

"Do not even TALK to me until I've had my coffee" - Angi

breakfast is served! - Megan

And to the Mammas who grew the coffee in our cups – Thank you.

Mother’s Day

“If you transform a man, you impact an individual. If you transform a woman, you impact generations.” – Latin American saying.

Mother’s Day is coming up here pretty quickly.  As adults, most of us really don’t need anymore stuff, but it’s still important to honor the moms we love.

Seven reasons why a ReThink Coffee subscription is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day:

1. She gets to drink the top 1% of the world’s specialty coffee every day. Fairly traded, shade grown and organic – the roast and grind she chooses.

2. She knows that she’s investing in the lives of women and girls around the world, as they become entrepreneurs and reinvest in their families and communities.

3. Mom gets to choose a church/non-profit that will automatically receive 8% of her order.

4. No matter where your mom lives in the US, her coffee will be delivered to her door, with free shipping.

5. You don’t have to wrap it.  This is a big one for me since I am wrapping impaired.

6. It’s easy to order:  www.rethinkcoffee.com

7. It’s not slippers.
